Podimo - Dag & Nacht Media

We had fries for breakfast

When Podimo asked us to shoot the artwork and PR photography for their new podcast Patatje Oorlog, we didn't have to think twice. Three hosts, one iconic snackbar in Amsterdam Oost, and a concept built around Dutch food culture. For a studio that considers itself very food-obsessed, this was our kind of brief.

Project in short

  • Worked closely with the creative team of Dag en Nacht Media to bring their bold creative vision to life.

  • Shot the key artwork and PR photography for Podimo's new podcast Patatje Oorlog, featuring hosts Noni Kooiman, Nana Asare and Isabelle Kafando.

  • From low-angle framing to expression direction, every technical choice was made to serve the bold and competitive vibe of the show.

Bringing the story to life

Patatje Oorlog is a friendly battle over food culture. The artwork needed to communicate all of that in a single frame: bold, competitive and energetic, with a retro aesthetic rooted in the visual language of the snackbar.

Our approach

The creative vision was already mapped out by the talented team at Dag en Nacht Media; from the bold typography to the analogue colour palette. Our role was to bring it to life through the lens. Shooting from a low angle to give the hosts a strong presence, directing expressions from nonchalant to ready-for-battle, and capturing the natural dynamic between Noni, Nana and Isabelle. And of course, a lighting plan that made all three look as good as the kroketjes.

Behind the scenes

We spent the day in what might be the best snackbar in Amsterdam Oost. Walking in felt like stepping out of a time machine; perfectly retro, barely needed any art direction. As self-proclaimed foodies, shooting a podcast we'd genuinely listen to in our free time? That's the kind of day that reminds you why you do this work.
